Inspired by Nature, For Climate, For Our Future

Namaste and Happy World Environment Day 2026!

I am Dinesh Sapkota, Agriculture Officer at the Sustainability Program of Kopila Valley Sewa Samaj.

In my view, World Environment Day is not just about June 5. It is about how we live every single day through our actions, our choices, and our habits.

Every action we take for the environment matters. What we do on land directly affects our water, soil, biodiversity, and climate. When farming is unsustainable, it harms ecosystems. But when we work with nature, farming can restore, heal, and bring life back.

At Kopila Valley, we try to bring this idea into practice every day. Through our Sustainability Ambassadors Club, bird watching and biodiversity activities, and Education for Sustainability programs, we encourage young people to observe nature closely, feel connected to it, and take responsibility for protecting it.

Our work also includes pollinator conservation, an agricultural insect gene bank, seed saving practices, vermicomposting, permaculture design, regenerative agriculture practices, integrated agriculture and livestock systems, waste management, reuse and recycling, organic agriculture promotion, and a Participatory Guarantee System (PGS) that supports trust-based organic farming and local food systems. Through our hands-on gardening curriculum and biodiversity activities, students learn by doing, touching soil, planting seeds, saving seeds, and truly understanding where their food comes from.

We discourage single-use plastic, but also have to promote its alternative that can replace plastic in daily life. For example, eco-friendly bags made from corn starch can be used like plastic but naturally decompose within about six months after disposal on land, reducing long-term environmental harm.

In all of this, one simple truth guides us: If we take care of the environment, it takes care of us. We believe that to be truly happy, we must also make the environment healthy and happy. Every small action matters, planting trees, saving water, protecting rivers, reducing waste, or simply making mindful choices in our daily lives.

Each step we take today is shaping the world we will live in tomorrow.

So let’s choose wisely. Let’s choose sustainability not just for nature, but for regenerative systems that restore life for ourselves, for our children, and for the sustainable future we all share.
